Everyday after I finish my work, I end up coming to this sandwich shop every now and then. I have myself seen this shop growing in revenue in front of my own eyes.

In the past few weeks I have seen the quality of service drop a little.
Today when I came to the shop I saw Saad bhai at the shop. He happens to be the owner of this establishment. Although it looks small, don’t go by its small stature to judge how good of a business it is. Daily approximately 20K – 50K in profit. You read that right, Profit not revenue. With the growing business he had to hire multiple resources.
That’s where the problem started. With “Malik” gone away in vacation, every person started running the establishment in their own sweet way. Opening the shop a little later than the usual time, not having all the inventory in place, leading to unfulfilled orders and lastly losing on revenue.
Today when I saw him, I greeted him. I’m meeting him after several months. I was about to continue our conversation, when the employee whispered, there’s no chicken to make the Chicken Sandwich. Saad bhai, the owner got furious. How come we do not have such an important inventory item. He checked the freezer. Nothing found.
While he was still rebuking his staff for their lacadasical attitude, he quickly grabbed the marinated chicken to get to the cooking. He could have easily told me today Chicken sandwich would not be possible, but no. He did not say that.
And that’s the crucial difference between and owner and an employee. Owners feel the pain. Employees not as much.
