Advertising on Facebook – a bigger picture

We have all been using Facebook for the past 10 years. With the world being hit by a global pandemic, Facebook saw it’s stock price rise up by 24% with advertising cost on the platform going to a peak high of 651million dollars a month.

Why is the above information even relevant?

To understand why the above information is relevant & if you are in business it is particularly important for you to understand why & with what intention was Facebook built?

In Mark Zuckerberg official statement in 2008 he mentioned Facebook as a platform where people can get connected. Years have passed and presently the companies mission statement states that their aim is to build better communities.

Now let’s take the example of a village/city being built. At first The roads & amenities are being built, so that people have a safe place to interact & be connected. When that sort of infrastructure is well laid out across the city, the governance tries to improve the local communities & individual community development becomes the key aspect.

Find any similarity?

Facebook is the global village/city, where virtually people are connected, they are bumping into each other by “tagging”. The are conversing, digitally through messenger, & not sitting at the corner tea stall. People on Facebook have groups where they can have their own chosen few (friends & family) just like they have in real life situations.

I hope, By this time, I have been able explain why you should be thinking of Facebook as a digital ecosystem of our own being & surroundings, that’s because it was originally built to be that.

How is it connected to us & our businesses if you may ask? Because, We are all doing Digital Marketing isn’t it? On Facebook? But are we doing it the right way?

Think of it? If we perceive Facebook as a representation of our city with inhabitants having their digital entity inhabiting the global village, where the one walks across the city through their “newsfeed” aren’t we supposed to see hoarding advertising when we are walking across the “digital streets”.

When we are hanging out with our friends & suddenly someone pop’s up with the idea of a movie, wouldn’t we be all excited? And during the movie, aren’t we experiencing advertisement? If I’m not wrong, we have all heard of Watch Party on Facebook, but then again did we think of using this feature as an advertising medium just like in a movie theatre?

We may be doing Digital Marketing on Facebook, but to execute that successfully, we may have to understand the platform even more.

For e.g. you can have Facebook ads act like hoarding ads for your business, I.e. only when people visit a particular location would you be able to show them the ads.

These & a lot more can be explored when you think of using Facebook as the virtually global village.

How have you been using Facebook for the benefits of your business? Let us know! I love interacting with people & would be a delight to meet & discuss!
