The first time I had heard the word ‘locus’ was in maths. In school. The memory is faded. All I remembered I tried memorising the concept, cause back then I really did not understand the concept and the underlying meaning of the word. Locus.
2 years shy of achieving the milestone of passing out of school 2 decades ago, I do understand the meaning of it. Oh very well. Locus.
Derived from the latin word ‘Locus’ meaning a place, a spot, an area, a location.
Over the years of being more experienced and more mature, people (at least I hope the majority of people) start becoming more self aware. More self conscious. At a stage, you become aware of how there’s no point in focusing on the external anymore. Its the ‘internal’ that needs to be focused on.
The focus needs to be on the locus. From external facing to inward facing. From external to internal. Once the centre of attention shift from the outside to the inside, the world suddenly starts to act and feel very differently.
Suddenly you are not looking at a job for a means to an end, you start seeing job as ‘karmayoga‘, the work that one needs to put in. You start realising the kind of work you enjoy the most. You find hedonic activities inside those mundane daily tasks.
That’s what happens when you start shifting focus from the external to the internal.
Back in 2023, just a year after joining Milestone, I started a passion project. In the 360 virtual experiences category. Before I could see much results, I had to move cities. Today, I saw that recording.
It is a saturday, I had just finished watching the game between Sunderland vs United. 0-0 the final scoreline. With a fluke encounter I happen to see the video I had recorded before I left Goa in 2024.
I was narrating the story about countless individuals which I felt I did pretty well. What do people have to say about me? That’s something I’ve always been intrigued about.
No, not because I’m externally focused. Far from that. I’m internally focused from a very early age. From early middle school. A true experience seeker. Bunking school to play football for 2 hours continuous. Watching movies because I had to go, otherwise friends wouldn’t accompany me for the meuseum vists that lasted hours.
I read in a book somewhere, where management consultants break down a problem as input, output, outcome. In the first stint at a hobby project, there was output, not much outcome.
This time around as I shift the focus internally, not relying on others to work on something, I will optimise for outcome.
Maybe that shows how I am growing as a person.
Thanks
