Volunteering can give you very different experiences, which inevitably provides you with us a chance to become a more rounded individual. The more experiences we have, the more adept we are at understanding situations. Volunteering can also help network with individuals whom you never thought of interacting.
For example, if I volunteer for a hotel, shoot a set of few photographs showing “how beautiful different times of the day looks like from the balcony of your room”. Something on these lines which I had done, while I was staying in Mumbai at Marine Drive.
If properties are already marketing themselves, I feel they can use some of my photographs. The purpose of me sharing the commercial rights of the photograph to the property, stems from the fact, that, I am doing volunteering. In lieu I would love to interact with the leadership team at the property. Hopefully they would agree. That way I get to interact with individuals whom I wouldn’t have interacted. Business leaders at the best of properties in the world.
Or suppose I want to volunteer for an NGO, to help them raise funds. Through this activity, I may end up meeting individuals whose stories may inspire me for my next steps.
Volunteering can also help us learn completely new skills which we would never have imagined we may need someday.
Truth be told, I’ve never given volunteering much thought previously. Now may be the right time to start. Its always the right time to start. More to come later. Will also elaborate on what I am learnt from K about volunteering. His story about meeting Prince will be published in the next couple of weeks.
